At Cornwell Labradors,
we are committed to creating
the perfect family companion.
By focusing on superior tested genetics, early and post placement socialization, and strategically innovative raising techniques, we ensure our puppies are well-prepared to bring joy and companionship to you and your family.
Our proprietary Puppy Structure method, backed by extensive research and expertise, guarantees that each puppy receives the best possible start in life, and that you are equipped to provide your puppy with the structure they need to continue thriving now in your care.
Your Cornwell Labrador spends their first eight to ten weeks in environments specifically designed to optimize trainability and temperament as a family companion. Our Puppy Structure program includes daily handling, novel experiences, problem-solving activities, and systematic socialization that builds both confidence and curiosity and best of all, an intrinsic motivation to earn your approval through good behavior.
During this developmental window, we don’t simply observe what each puppy becomes. We shape them. Targeted protocols develop each puppy for the specific role they will play in your home, whether family companion, field partner, service support, or steady presence in a household with children.
When they come home, our training guides pick up where we left off, providing you with structured protocols for developing that foundation into the devoted, reliable, well-mannered companion your family deserves.
The Dog Who Started It All
After 10+ years as a professional dog trainer and Certified Canine Behaviorist, I thought I understood Labradors. Then Buddy joined our family and redefined what one could be.
Why Buddy Changed Everything
At Furbaby Haven, my behavior practice in Longmont, Buddy works as our resident demo dog for behavior modification, social skill acquisition, and obedience training with client dogs. He has a genius-level ability to gain the trust of anxious, fearful, and reactive dogs through tactful, intuitive interaction. We never taught him this. He naturally leads fearful dogs toward trust and serves as a certified Emotional Support Animal for both humans and dogs in our care.
When we realized how exceptional he was, we built a program to continue his best qualities. Cornwell Labradors exists to give other families the same remarkable companion we have come to depend on.
Buddy is the foundation of our program: genetically, philosophically, and practically. He sets our standard for temperament.
Most Breeders Are Solving The Wrong Problem
85% of families want a dog who will curl up on the couch after a walk, play gently with kids, and stay calm when the doorbell rings. They want a companion. Not a field trial champion, not a show dog, not a protection animal.
Yet nearly every breeding program optimizes for working ability, conformation standards, or sport performance. The research focuses on it. The health testing prioritizes it. The early development protocols assume it.
And families end up with dogs bred for jobs they will never do, exhibiting drives they cannot manage, requiring expertise they do not have.
We breed specifically for the life your dog will actually live.
Service-Level Temperament From Birth
Buddy treats whelping his own litters as his job. He actively participates in the birthing process alongside his bitches, monitoring puppies, gentling new arrivals, and establishing calm boundaries from day one. With his pups he plays so mindfully of their fragility that he coaches their behavior and role-models his wisdom intentionally. We never taught this. It is innate working temperament expressed as caretaking.
This is what we preserve in every Cornwell Labrador puppy: dogs built for partnership. Service-oriented support for your family life, executive function support for neurodivergent households, and intuitive companionship for those who need a dog that thinks with you, not just alongside you.
What This Means For Your Family
You receive a puppy raised by a Certified Canine Behaviorist, from health-tested parents, using protocols refined through ongoing behavioral research. Most importantly, you receive a Labrador whose temperament makes daily life exponentially better: calm in the house, enthusiastic outdoors, naturally gentle with family, and driven to work as part of your team.
The Puppy Structure Method
Puppy Structure is a developmental system that builds stress resilience, social confidence, and cognitive engagement during your puppy’s first 8 to 10 weeks. Built from the ground up using research from my behavioral consulting practice (BA Psychology, MS Behavioral Psychology Research, MS Applied Statistics), every protocol is continuously refined based on outcomes.

Beyond Generic Puppy Culture
Most “puppy culture” programs were designed for working dogs and optimize for drive, sport, or service. They focus primarily on exposure: more sights, more sounds, more handling.
Puppy Structure focuses on exposure and capacity. Developing each puppy’s ability to regulate stress, process new experiences, and engage cooperatively with humans and other dogs.
One example: we engage puppies daily in forced sharing exercises with littermates. Holding a single pig ear lightly between two puppies, if either tries to take it and run, neither gets it. Only when they cooperate do they both chew. This single protocol has nearly eliminated resource guarding in our adult dogs, and our puppies grow into adults who actively offer toys and treats to their pack members.
Families consistently report Cornwell Labs learn faster, recover from setbacks quicker, show impressive confidence in novel situations, and are the most well-adjusted, ready-to-learn, easiest puppies to live with they have ever known.
Built For Your Household
Every Cornwell Labrador’s program is adapted after they are assigned to their family at two weeks old.
Hunting families receive prey drive preservation. Families with cats and small animals receive multi-species socialization. Families with young children receive enhanced handling protocols. Service-oriented families receive task introduction and stability work. Each puppy is psychologically developed for the specific life they are going to live.
From weeks 8 through 16 and beyond, you continue with structured weekly protocols. No guessing. No conflicting advice. No needing a degree in dog behavior to raise a well-adjusted puppy. We give you the foundation. We give you the instructions. You enjoy your puppy.
Health Is Non-Negotiable
Every Cornwell Labrador comes from parents with OFA-certified hips and elbows, complete genetic health panels, and zero shared ancestry across ten generations. Genetic diversity matters as much as health testing. Early Neurological Stimulation begins on day three.
Multi-Species Socialization & Prey Drive Management
Puppies destined for companion homes are raised with our resident cats and chinchillas to build boundaries and impulse control during the earliest developmental windows. This helps your Labrador coexist peacefully with small pets.
For Hunting Families
If you seek a Labrador for field work, please state this during application. We exclude hunting-line puppies from cat and chinchilla exposure to preserve natural prey drive, providing alternative enrichment appropriate for their working role.
Watch Them Grow
From the first wobbly hours to the morning they leave for home, every Cornwell Labrador’s developmental story unfolds in front of the families who love them. These are moments from our most recent litters.
Why American Field Lines
The hyperactive reputation of American field lines comes from poor breeding and lack of early structure, not from the lines themselves. A properly bred American Lab raised through Puppy Structure is calmer than most English Labs, because emotional regulation has been part of their development from birth. Buddy is American field. So is Barnaby. Both are steady, trustworthy companions who settle naturally in the house. This is what correct breeding and early development produce.
The Practical Advantages Over English Lines
No drooling. American field lines typically do not drool. Your furniture, car, and clothing stay clean.
Athletic build. Lighter frame reduces joint stress while maintaining strength and endurance. They stay healthier longer with less wear on their bodies.
Natural weight management. American lines maintain healthier weights without the obesity tendency common in English Labs. Less risk of diabetes, joint problems, and shortened lifespan.
Balanced energy with an off-switch. Properly raised American Labs are exceptionally calm indoors while retaining enthusiasm for outdoor activity. Many English Labs lack this.
Working intelligence. Superior problem-solving makes them exceptionally responsive to training. They think independently and partner with you rather than simply obeying.
Structural health. American lines have anatomical structure allowing safer, easier whelping and greater overall resilience. We see this consistently across our breeding program and the client dogs we work with at Furbaby Haven.

From The Whelping Room
This is where every Cornwell Labrador begins.
Color-coded from birth. Watched live, around the clock, by the families who will love them.
How Selection Works
Before each litter is born, we send approved families links to our public Facebook page and 24/7 Twitch livestream. No sign-in required. From the day puppies are on the ground, you watch them grow in real time. At about two weeks old, families chosen for that litter receive their assigned pick order, place their deposit, and rank their top three puppies. From there, we develop your puppy into the dog your family needs.
Complete Application & Selection Process

Approval & Live Access
Before the litter is born, we send you links to our public Facebook page and 24/7 Twitch livestream. No sign-in required, no app to download. From the day puppies are on the ground, you watch them grow in real time, around the clock, with daily photo and video updates on Facebook. Each puppy wears a unique color-coded collar from birth for clear identification.
Pick Order & Ranking
At about two weeks old, we reach out to families chosen for that litter with their assigned pick order (first pick, second pick, and so on). You place your $1,500 deposit and submit your top three puppies, ranked by preference, from the personalities you have watched emerge live.
Your Puppy Is Assigned
From your top three, your pick order, and the role you need this dog to fill, your puppy is assigned. From this moment forward, that puppy is yours, and our work shifts into active developmental mode.
Targeted Development
The critical developmental window for a puppy is weeks two through ten. During this period, neural architecture and behavioral defaults are being established. We do not observe what each puppy becomes. We shape it. Hunting families receive prey drive preservation work. Families with cats receive multi-species socialization. Families with young children receive enhanced handling protocols. Service-oriented families receive task introduction and stability work. Companion families receive temperament-fit pairings with daily-life development. Every puppy is built for the specific life they will live with you.
Going Home
Puppies leave when individually ready, between 8 and 10 weeks. Remaining balance due at pickup or before transport. Local pickup in Longmont, or affordable nationwide ground transport through our partner Serendipity Pets Transportation.
Our Ideal Family
Families who understand Labradors are family members requiring companionship, training, and activity. First-time owners committed to learning are equally welcome as experienced owners who want to excel. We prioritize families who want a true partner, will continue Puppy Structure protocols, and value lifetime support.
Our Philosophy
We breed exceptional Labrador Retrievers. We let approved families choose them at two weeks old. We strategically develop each puppy for the life they will live with you. We support those families with unlimited expertise for life. And we remain a safety net for our dogs, always.
